If you are looking for a few frights before Halloween night, the Surfabilly Freakout, a radio program (WPGU, 107.1 FM), will be hosting a Pre-Halloween bash with musical entertainment from the Coffin Daggers (New York), Go! Tsunami (Springfield), and Vvvvv (Champaign).

The Coffin Daggers bring with them a powerful mix of instrumental surf, punk, garage and psych. The band is made up of Viktor Venom, (guitar, theremin, echoplex), Eudocia Rodzinak (organ, piano), Peter Klarnet (bass) and Pete Martinez (drums). Guitar Magazine described the band as “a picture-perfect soundtrack for a ‘60s B-movie on youth run amok. Everything from the garage-y audio to the cheesy organ pads is period appropriate, but guitarist Viktor moves the proceedings beyond mere era emulation by unleashing a rude and vicious riff that would make Link Wray smile.”

The Coffin Daggers will be joined by Springfield’s Go! Tsunami, a powerful surf-rock quartet who are a great fit for any costume bash. The band is not only known for its music but also for the “Friday the 13th” hockey masks and coveralls.

The opening band is Champaign’s own Vvvvv, winner of a Local Music Award for “Best Cover Band” in 2008. The members of Vvvvv are no strangers to wearing costumes as well and play a mixture of cover songs (played in their own Vvvvv style) and originals.

The Surfabilly Freakout radio show has aired on WPGU (107.1 FM) since May of 2006. The program featuring a mix of surf, garage, spaghetti western and psychobilly music, often has over 10 hosts (DJs) at one time, lending to its party-like atmosphere. The Surfabilly Freakout can be heard on Thursday nights from 9-10pm.
