The Corn Desert Ramblers Formed at the end of 2005, the original lineup featured Dave, Lee, Dustin and our first guitar player Ken. Ken left the band, and was soon replaced by Sam Payne in January '06, who i might add is the best flat picker in the area. Rounding out the band and solidifying the all-star lineup, Dan Andree was added after he met Dustin and Sam pickin on the quad in Sep '06. They play their first gig at the Iron Post in Nov. '06 as the Flatland String Band and continued to play gigs under this name. They officially debuted as the Corn Desert Ramblers on January 18th, opening for Reverend Payton's Big Dam Band at the Canopy Club. Other notable shows include headlining the Canopy Club after only four shows on February 22th. In May of '07 The Corn Desert Started play a weekly gig at the Rose Bowl with Russal Clark on Bass and Bob Watson on Dobro. This configuration flirted with the name Bug Tussle, but as Bob and Russal played more show with the group it just be came one. Topping off the first year run was playing the Strip Mines Music Festival at the Caves Murphysboro, IL on Labor Day. In the Sprit of Bluegrass they end a year of playing were they started at the Iron Post with great friends and family. The Corn Desert Ramblers are an exciting new band in the Champaign-Urbana scene steeped in old-time tradition and new-time sensibilities.
