Weezer is a Grammy-nominated rock band from Los Angelas, California that was formed in 1992. Their first album was a self titled release in 2004 and is now a triple platinum album and is on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest albums. It is commonly referred to as the Blue Album by many of its fans because of its blue cover. Their second album, Pinkerton, was released in 1996 and initially met comparatively less success than their debut, yet the word of mouth and steady album sales caused many of their critics to later change their stances on the album. It was accepted as a classic album, later being inducted into Rolling Stone's Hall Of Fame. The band then took a three year hiatus, returning in 2000 to perform on a long awaited tour; this tour being the catalyst for them to begin recording again and eventually leading to their second self titled release in 2001, given the nickname The Green Album. They received a whole new generation of fans with this release, thanks in no small part to the heavy playing of their hit singles "Hash Pipe" and & "Island In The Sun" by MTV. Hash Pipe later received a nomination for an MTV Video Music Award. Their next two albums met decent amounts of success in terms of sales, but mostly fell short of their previous works both critically and in profits. (Maladroit being their lowest selling record to date). After their fifth album there was significant talk of an indefinite hiatus by the band, but those rumors were put to rest in the summer of 2007 when the band confirmed that they were working on a new album which is scheduled for release in the spring of 2008. Weezer most recently released The Red Album in June 2008, with the hit single "Pork and Beans".
