Started as a side project by Pixies bassist Kim Deal and Throwing Muses guitarist Tanya Donelly and released their first album "Pod" in 1990 (with Josephine Wigg playing bass) to critical acclaim. In 1992, after the release of a 4-song EP, Donelly left the group making room for Deal's sister Kelley. The Pixies disbanded in 1993, allowing for Kim Deal to make The Breeders her number one priority. In 1993, the groups sophomore album "Last Splash" went platinum and toured on Lollapalooza that summer. In 1994, Kelley was arrested for drug possession and entered rehab, putting the band on hiatus. The group that released "Last Splash" never played together again. However, in 2002, Kim and Kelley Dealy released a new Breeders album with a new lineup.
