Sounds Like:Kool and the Gang, James Brown

Rick James was a funk singer/songwriter who found fame in the late '70s and early '80s. James was a producer for many motown acts including The Spinners and Smokey Robinson and The Mircales. He is known best for his 1981 hit "Super Freak" off the concept album "Street Songs." Rick James unfortunately was also known for his struggle with drug abuse, especially cocaine. He would go on week-long cocaine binges with his wife and was charged with assault multiple times by different women during a few of these binges. He tried to make a comeback to music after a two year stint in prison, but suffered a mild heart attack during a concert in 1997. He died in 2004 in his home. It was ruled that he died of cardiac failure even though there were nine separate drugs present in his blood stream, including cocaine, although it was ruled none of these drugs were present at a life threatening level in his body.
