Phantom Planet is probably most well-known for their hit, “California,” which became the theme song to the teen drama, “The O.C.” The band formed in L.A. in 1994 and released their first album, Phantom Planet Is Missing, in 1997. The original members included Alex Greenwald (lead vocals, guitar), Jason Schwartzman (drums), Sam Farrar (bass guitar, backing vocals), Darren Robinson (guitar, backing vocals), and Jacques Brautbar (guitar, vocals). Brautbar left the group in 2004 to pursue a career in photography, and Schwartzman left in 2003 to become an actor and appeared in films such as, “I Heart Huckabees” and “Bewitched.” Schwartzman was replaced by drummer Jeff Conrad. Phantom Planet’s most recent album, Raise the Dead, was released in April 2008 and features the single, “The Leader,” a song that Greenwald wrote a pretend experience with a cult. Phantom Planet began working on a new album while preparing for the 2008 Honda Civic Tour, where they performed with Motion City Soundtrack, Panic At The Disco, and The Hush Sound.
