Alice in Chains is a primal band from the grunge rock era of the late 1980s, early 1990s. They are one of the most commercially successful rock bands to come out of Seattle. The band formed in 1987 to become one of the most influential rock bands in music history. They have sold about 20 million records in the US alone and about 60 million worldwide. Alice in Chains has released 4 studio albums 17 hit singles and an incredible amount of platinum records. The infamous Layne Staley, lead singer, met guitarist Jerry Cantrell, who soon found bassist Mike Starr, and finally finished off the lineup with drummer Sean Kinney. After several years of success the band had their final performance with lead singer Layne Staley in 1996. 1998 the band struggle to keep contact with Layne until Layne Staley was found dead in his condo with an overdose of heroin and cocaine in 2002. Since then the band has made tribute albums and done charity performances for such causes like Hurricane Katrina. Rumors say the band has reunited to release another LP in 2007/2008.
