Here is an authentic rap/hip-hop group from the streets of New York called A Tribe Called Quest. This band has been highly acclaimed for their work with five of their albums through a decade. Rappers and producers Q-tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and Jarobi White joined forces in 1988. Jarobi White left the group in 1990 and the band is now a trio. A Tribe Called Quest has been known to be one of the first rap groups to make alternative rap music. They talk about social issues in black America along with personal relationships and politics which differ completely with the content of mainstream rap these days. They come also with a jazz rap sound and have incredible eclectic samplings involved in their songs. The group went on in the 90s making great hits like "I Left My Wallet in El Segundo" and "1nce Again". Unfortunately they disbanded in 1998 after a decade but then reunited in 2006 with aspirations to tour and make more new music.
