Longtime friends Elzie Sexton and J. Caleb Means grew up in Southern Illinois and began collaborating musically in their early teens, participating in various projects until they both left town to attend college. This of course was not the end of their collaborations together, as throughout college they continued to send each other works through the mail and play together during breaks from their education, finally graduating and forming New Ruins in 2004. Initially they only produced music in the studio, but in 2005 they began playing shows and between gigs and work schedules they self-recorded their first album "The Sound They Make" and were subsequently signed to Hidden Agenda Records. In time Paul Chastain and Roy Ewing joined the line-up, making the duo a 4-piece, and are currently in the final stages of recording their first album as a 4-piece, "There's Dumb Truth In The Way We Lie."
