Sex and the City has undoubtedly empowered women of this generation to feel great about themselves, whether married or single, in a relationship or not. Women are finally comfortable as themselves and are taking pride in their lives, as opposed to feeling like man’s toys. Rather, men are these women’s play things at times! Like other cult hits, Sex and the City provides a way of helping women figure out who they are and what they want from life.
Each of the main characters are completely different from one another. Sometimes they even represent caracatures of different kinds of women, and fans often identify with a certain one. Some fans even describe themselves as one of The Girls: e.g., “Oh my God, I was being such a Samantha last night!”
So for those who aren’t quite as familiar with The Girls, venture through these descriptions and see which one you most identify with.
Carrie
She’s the columnist chick who lives the bohemian lifestyle of a writer in New York City. Her ideas are thoughtful and they definitely get the viewers to think about the dynamics of modern relationships. She’s constantly pecking away at her laptop, asking herself ponderous questions about her current relationship, or lack thereof. As she says in a particular episode, she’s looking for real love, the kind that consumes a person. She’s daring in every sense, from the types of men she dates to the clothes she wears in public.
Samantha
As a powerful public relations executive, Samantha is, as described in another particular episode, the new hybrid woman of New York City. She’s a woman with a man’s mentality. By “men’s mentality,” I mean she looks for sex with no strings attached and is absolutely fine with it. While it may sound demeaning, Samantha’s philosophy empowers her and keeps her from getting hurt in the few real relationships she has outside of her normal one night stands. She’s completely sexually liberated and is always willing to try new things — like dating a woman.
Miranda
A Harvard Law grad working her way to partner in a large law firm, Miranda is the typical New York City yuppie. But she’s a modern woman who believes in being completely independent, in terms of assets and emotions, and takes this attitude a little too far at times by hating men. The only exception is when she’s in bed with a man, of course. She often comes off as a bitch, but in her vulnerable moments she reveals a softer side.
Charlotte
She is, as many Web sites describe her, a Park Avenue princess. She’s from a family that has old money, and she is as prim and proper as a marvelous afternoon tea. She’s an old fashioned, hopeless romantic who can be a refreshing breath of air from all the talk of being totally independent of men. A perfectionist, she wishes for the perfect proposal, the perfect marriage and the American Dream. It’s her idealism that propels her life.

Actually, I'm more just anti-Charlotte. Can't say I've watched more than 5 minutes of this show at a time, but by your description, she sounds like the exact opposite of someone I'd like to befriend.
