Dear Will Ferrell,

Thank you ever so much for putting an end to the seemingly endless saga that was your participation in what I’ve dubbed the “failed professional [blank] series.” Since your turn as the hilarious Ron Burgandy in Anchorman, you’ve unfortunately limited your talented self to typecast roles (well, minus Stranger Than Fiction) in movies with identical plots. Anchorman was about “the best” anchor man who becomes shamed and must reclaim his old glory days. Talladega Nights was about a NASCAR driver who fell from grace and his struggles to regain his old form. Blades Of Glory was basically the same movie as Talladega Nights, except that you had to pair up with your enemy to reach the top again. Perhaps Semi-Pro was simply the ultimate low point in your career; a necessary derailing from the tracks of mediocrity. Whatever the reason, I thank you for moving on with your life.

On that point, Mr. Ferrell, I must say I am greatly looking forward to your latest film, Step Brothers. As you well know, John C. Reilly is utterly hilarious. Did you see Walk Hard? It might have been the funniest spoof since Airplane.

Alas, I digress.

Your latest film, which is about two step brothers who become best friends (from worst enemies) and must “grow up” brings back fond memories of the 1990s, when Adam Sandler was still funny. Step Brothers seems like an older version of Billy Madison in many ways. The penguin may be absent, but the childish spirit lives on. Your youthful immaturity shatters the mold of PC formality that is destroying the very soul of our society.

I greatly hope that, unlike many comedies, I have not seen already seen all of “the funny parts” in the trailer. Nothing would disappoint me more than to not laugh at what looks like a sure fire return to form to your former funny self. Perhaps, if this movie is successful, it will be the ultimate irony in how it reflects upon your aforementioned role choices. Regardless, I will see it opening night; just don’t my heart Ferrell.
